Understanding Spiritual Gifts
Every person who knows Christ has been given at least one or more spiritual gifts. If we likened the members of the body of Christ to flavors of ice cream, there would be no plain vanilla. Because we all have varied kinds of gifts and fields of service, each of us has a unique contribution to make. The spiritual principle at work is one in which there is unity in the midst of diversity.
As you use your gifts, you'll find God at work in you and through you. The blessings of this journey are profound! You will see yourself grow, and you'll have the joy of seeing others blessed through you as they grow in Christ.
We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith. If it is serving, left him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.
(Romans 12:6-8, NIV)
The body is not made up of one part but of many . . . Now you are the body of Christ, and
each one of you is a part of it.
(1 Corinthians 12:14,27, NIV)
